If you have noticed, Swift trucking company drivers do a LOT of stupid things and get photographed at it... well, finally, the president/COO is fed up. Next month driver facing cameras are getting installed
Swift Transportation informed its drivers last week that the company will deploy dual video recording systems in all company trucks beginning in May. The systems include both forward-facing and driver-facing lenses. Installation of driver-facing cameras, sometimes considered distasteful to drivers, represents a risk for Swift at a time when most truckload fleets concede their most pressing concern is recruiting and retaining drivers.
According to Swift’s website, the company operates more than 18,000 power units and does more than $4 billion in business a year.
The company ranks by revenue as the second-largest truckload carrier (behind Schneider) and the sixth-largest for-hire fleet overall in the most recent Transport Topics Top 100 survey. Swift will be the largest for-hire truckload carrier yet to deploy driver-facing cameras.
A Swift spokesman said the company had no comment on the internal announcement.

Dash cam shows that this trucker spotted and avoided a head on collision before you can see the car on the video... check this out
2000 dollar towing bill, and 4 hours to get back on the road and driving. Better by far, than the other possibility... but proof that a dash cam is needed to backup your story when you have to explain to the boss what the hell happened.
was it a drunk driver? sleep deprived? or suicide by semi truck? That has happened a couple times last week.

A truck crashed into a half-finished monument on south Fourth Street meant to honor those killed in traffic fatalities in New York on Saturday.
Right of Way, a group of road safety activists, had put nearly 10 hours into an art installation depicting the silhouettes and names of the 264 people killed in traffic accidents in 2014 when a truck hit one of the walls.
South Fourth Street is not a truck route. Witnesses say that the driver spent 30 minutes to an hour trying to extricate himself from the monument and the narrow street.

The back end of a tractor-trailer smashed into a wall in Williamsburg where a group of activists were installing a memorial to New Yorkers killed in traffic accidents.
The crash rattled the memorial wall where more than 40 volunteers of the transportation group Right of Way were almost pasted as they pasted silhouettes of 264 dead people on the temporary wall along Kent Avenue and S. Third Street on Saturday.
The group spent 10 hours on Saturday hanging wooden planks and then pasting on the 264 5-foot-high, 20-inch wide panels that now covers two-and-a-half sides of the full-city-block construction fence. Each silhouette reads “Killed by traffic” and has the name of the victim underneath.
The 18-wheeler sped around the corner at about 11 am, and the back left portion of the truck slammed into the wall, according to the activists. The force of the crash cracked the wall on impact. The volunteers, many of whom were perched on ladders and scaffolding, were shaken, but no one was injured.
The irony of the situation was not lost them.
The group installed the memorial to protest what they call the city’s insufficient steps taken to quell traffic deaths in the year since it instituted “Vision Zero” — the mayor’s plan to decrease the number of pedestrian fatalities to zero.
The temporary wall is wrapped around the construction site that will be one of the massive skyscrapers of Two Trees Management Co.’s Domino sugar factory project.
This all happened on the same weekend that the New York City Street Memorial Project, which installs white bike sculptures in spots where bicyclists have been killed, hosted its Ghost Bike ride across the city. The two projects are unrelated, but have many crossover members and supporters.

This happened in South Africa a year ago.
But face it, it's known as unexpected, because you're on the road with thousands of other strangers every day.

The I-80 through Wyoming is a mess. Lots of semis piled up, a couple people dead. This will take 12 - 24 hours to clear out. This video is exceptional in showing up close what the inside of a pile up looks like
A stretch of Interstate 80 between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming, remained closed Friday morning, more than 15 hours after major wrecks involving dozens of semi trucks forced police to close it down.

Some trucking fails are simply mistakes, this one is lazy, and stupid
I never thought to ask, but why the hell aren't truckers putting back up cameras on their trailers? Why don't they do this for their driving record and insurance, and why don't the trucking company owners do this so their trailers aren't getting wrecked and insurance paying out?
